F.A.Q's.
- Do I need to prepare myself for floating?
- If you shave 2 or 3 hours before using the tank, the shaved skin will sting for a few minutes. If you can postpone your shaving, you will probably be more comfortable.
- If you wear contact lenses, it would be a problem if any salt water got into your eyes. If you remove your contacts you don't have to be concerned about it.
- If you have caffeine before you float, it may interfere with your ability to relax.
- If you have any cuts or burns, wait for them to heal before floating, as the salt water will sting and be uncomfortable.
- Can I eat before floating?
- It is not advisable to eat a heavy meal before floating, as you will be listening to the digestion of your food. It’s OK to have a light meal or you can eat after you float.
- How do I know that the tank is clean and safe?
- We have a high-powered pump and filtration system that is the same quality as those used for Jacuzzis. We run the filter twice a day and after each floatation session.
- We have a high quality ozonator attached to the filter to provide a high level of sanitation. Ozone is effective over a wide pH range and rapidly neutralizes bacteria, viruses, and protozoans and has a higher germicidal properties than chlorination.
- State of the art UV sanitation technology is employed.
- The high salinity of the Epsom salt solution kills any bacteria, viruses, or germs, which ensures the safety of the floating client.
- Is there enough air circulation in the tank to breathe comfortably?
- The tank is designed so that it is not airtight. You'll have plenty of air. To keep the tank air fresher, an air circulation system brings additional air from the room. The air enters at the rear of the tank. You may prefer to have your head at that end.
- Should I wear earplugs in the tank?
- There are 10 inches of water in the tank with 800 lbs. of Epsom salt dissolved in it. When you lie back you will float like a cork. Your ears will be under water. There are earplugs available if you would like to use them, and we recommend using them if you have had ear problems before. The earplugs also help eliminate external noise while you are floating.
- How should my body be positioned when I float?
- You can experiment with the best body position for you. For example, hands behind head, on your chest, along your sides. If you have tension in your neck you can relieve it by clasping your hands behind your head or using a head float.
- What happens if the salt water solution gets in my eyes?
- Try to avoid getting the solution in your eyes, as the high salinity will sting your eyes. If you do happen to get some solution in your eyes, there is a bowl of clean water and a hand towel near the tank to wash the salt out of your eyes.
- Do I need to shower before entering the tank?
- Remove your metal jewelry and contact lenses. Take a short shower before you get in the tank.
- Do you wear anything in the tank?
- Since it is a private experience, most people don't wear anything. Anything you wear will press against your body, becoming a distraction. In this regard imagine it as similar to getting into your bathtub.
- How do I know when my floating time has ended?
- We will provide soft, relaxing music from inside the tank as an indication that your float has ended.
- What do I do after my float is over?
- Your body has salt water all over it which you don't want to drip everywhere. Dry off the salt water before you walk to the shower. There will be a robe and towel provided for your shower.
- What if I am claustrophopic?
- You can have the door of the tank open if you prefer. In fact, floatation tanks are often used to aid in overcoming phobias.
- Is anyone not supposed to use the tank?
- We don't recommend tank use for epileptics whose epilepsy is not under medical control, for people under the influence of alcohol or drugs, for those with infectious diseases or open skin wounds, or for those with suicidal tendencies.
- Can pregnant women use the tank?
- Yes. We suggest that pregnant women inform their physicians or midwives and get their opinion prior to using the tank. The reports received from pregnant women have been enthusiastic. As their bodies get heavier, floating is a great relief from the pull of gravity. Floating has given many women a welcome rest.
- Can women use the tank if they are menstruating?
- Yes, if they use a tampon.
